The Irish-American community is one that is proud of its heritage. The Irish people brought a lot of great food, culture, and history when them when they came to America. They are one of the ethnic groups most likely to care about preserving some semblance of their heritage. Sports teams provide avenues for them to do just that. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish teams are appealing to many Irish Americans. The college sports teams that play for Norte Dame inspire plenty of people who have Irish heritage. There’s just a legendary aura around Notre Dame, and their place in the sports world is secure. Many Irish Americans celebrate the accomplishments of the sports teams of Norte Dame. The football team is the main attraction, but basketball and other sports are also popular.

The Boston Celtics are also a team that was seemingly made for Irish people. Those brilliant green uniforms sure look good, and it doesn’t hurt that the Celtics have won plenty of NBA championships in their storied history. It’s easy for Irish people to identify with the Celtics because of the colors and the symbols. Many Irish people treat the Celtics like one of their own teams. You could root for Norte Dame and the Boston Celtics today.

Irish Americans have played a very important role in the history of the United States. In that respect, their sporting contributions are nothing to be surprised about. The Boston Celtics are one of the most successful NBA teams in the country. They have won countless championship trophies and they are always there or thereabouts when it comes to the business end of the season. It is very rare that the Boston Celtics are not involved in the Playoffs to some extent.

Irish American players are prevalent throughout the history of American sports. The NFL, National Football League, has had its share of Irish American players. Tom Brady and John Elway are two notable players who are of Irish American heritage. Tom Brady is long recognized as one of the best quarter backs to ever play the game. John Elway is viewed in a similar way for his time at the Denver Broncos where he won two rings and an MVP as well. Tom Brady has won countless championship rings and his career is far from finished.

Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe are the two most famous American tennis players, aside from Sampras and Agassi. They are both of Irish American heritage.

Being legally launched into the world of Irish Americans through the union of matrimony can be an eye-opening experience for those of us not born of this proud heritage. From immigration stories to shared recipes to the ambitious zest for life the Irish innately uphold, we could only expect to witness the same passion for the beloved sport of baseball and the significance of Irish influence within the sport.

The National League intrigued sons of Irish immigrants beginning as far back as 1876 after a plethora of Irish immigrants made their way onto American soil.This{{/tag} helps explain it more. A great segue into American acceptance and camaraderie; the Irish took to the game like the potato to a recipe. The Irish took baseball by storm and passion, creating almost too many stars to name.

While the Irish-American explosion in baseball and American sports have diminished greatly since those earlier days, today’s Irish-American connection and devotion to sports and baseball, in particular, will always be especially acknowledged to the Irish. Their personal sparks of imagination, excitement and desire to belong in this fine and free country contributed to the ignition of such remarkable teams as the Philadelphia Athletics in 1901 and the New York Yankees.

When it comes to Irish American teams in sports there really aren’t a lot of options. In fact there is really only one team in professional sports that claim to be Irish American and that is the Boston Celtics. Of course, even though they are the only Irish American team in sports they are decidedly Irish. Everything about the team is built and designed around this theme from the color scheme to the name to the logo. The team’s colors are green and white and their logo is a cartoonish version of an Irish smoking a pipe. It could be offensive except everyone in Boston is to giddy with the team’s success to even care.

The team is also one of the most successful teams in professional basketball history. They have more championships than any other team in NBA history. This great NBA history combined with the their Irish American theme make the Boston Celtics a great source of pride among Irish Americans all over the United States and residents of Boston alike. Every Irish American basketball fan in the country fells some kind of connection to the team whether they are from Boston or not because of their success and Irish theme.

Remember the movie “Gangs of New York”? The Irish are known for fighting the odds with an iron jaw and a stiff drink. The Irish always come back home dancing and singing and praising the land of their birth.

Teams with Irish names and links to Irish heritage invoke a feeling of loyalty, undying spirit and the desire to honor family, country and creed. Even if an Irish team loses, they’ll still enjoy a pint and keep diggin’ till Mother Ireland stands free boy’O.

It’s easy to stand behind a team with an Irish name because even if you are the underdog, an Irish name brandishes the strength of playing with honor and owning a bit of the “luck” that has been gifted by generations past. If an Irish team wins, it’s all but right and natural. If an Irish team loses, well…the Irish never really lose, they just let their guards down a bit. But it’ll never happen again–you’ll see!

No matter what the outcome of a sporting event, the Irish team always knows how to throw the best celebration party. They celebrate victory, or the chance to git’ even aye? You’ll never go astray cheerin’ for the Irish!

Sports teams with strong Irish-American ties are extremely popular in the United States. The two most famous Irish American-related sport programs are the Boston Celtics, an NBA dynasty, and the University of Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish sports program. The University of Notre Dame offers a wide variety of sports for its student-athletes, but its most popular programs with the fans are the football and basketball teams, both of which have a long, storied, and successful history.

The Boston Celtics were formed in 1946 and were named the “Celtics” in order to honor Boston’s large working class Irish-American population. In more homages to the Irish, the Celtics’ uniforms are green, and their mascot and logo manages to include all of the iconic depictions of the Irish in Boston that were standard in the 1950s: a leprechaun covered in shamrock-patterned clothing with a bowler hat, holding a pipe and a shillelagh while smiling a mischievous grin!

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish do not pay homage to a specific region of Irish-Americans, but rather to all Irish Catholics living in America. Notre Dame is a private Catholic university and adopted the Fighting Irish name in 1899 after Irish players on the football team.

The Irish American community loves athletics. Whether it is basketball, football, or any other sport, they are passionate about it. Irish American fans believe in a never say die philosophy. Their tenacity, grit, and determined nature make them some of the most devoted fans in America.

During the first mass immigration wave, the Irish brought their love for sports with them. They won hard fought battles to get into American sports and brought fans with them. Teams with Irish American ties are dedicated to the game and their fans. Irish Americans are extremely loyal to the sports teams, and their teams are loyal to them. These teams have the philosophy and knowledge of hundreds of years of tradition behind them.

Irish Americans have a heritage of not giving up when they’re pushed down. They come up from what may seem like defeat and are stronger because of it. Teams with those ties are the same way. If they’re not winning, their spirit will not be defeated. They will come from behind and do what needs to be done to succeed. Teams with Irish American ties are driven to succeed just like their predecessors were. Their community spirit binds them together.

When thinking of NBA basketball teams with Irish American ties one need not look any further than the Boston Celtics. This teams entire culture is based around Irish heritage. One of the Celtics greatest players during their time of dominance in the 1980s was an Irish American. Power Forward Kevin McHale has the distinct honor of being an Irish American player on the Boston Celtics in a city renowned for its Irish American roots.

McHale was born Minnesota where he won the Mr. Basketball award as a senior and played his college basketball there at the University of Minnesota where he was dominant.Didn’t catch that? This explains it. This led to him being drafted by the Boston Celtics early in the 1980 NBA draft. From there he went on to become one of the most dominant power forwards in NBA history. He was a key member of three Celtic teams that won championships in 1981, 1984 and 1986. He was a 7 time All-Star, 2 time Sixth Man of the Year and made 6 NBA All-Defensive teams. He had a wide array of post moves that made him difficult to defend and was a fierce defender. He is till considered one of the best power forwards of all time and had his #32 jersey retired by the Celtics after his retirement.

When it comes to the “luck of the Irish”, there are some American sporting teams which tend to be luckier than others. These teams have withheld their Irish ties for years and years, and will continue to do so.

One of the best known Irish linked teams is that of the Boston Celtics. This NBA team has had its fair share of championship trophies. In recent games the Celtics took a loss against the Hawks and a win against the Bucks. They are usually ranked higher than most other NBA teams and always bring in large crowds to watch their games.Want more?
Another well known team that not only has Irish ties but also is referred to as being Irish is the college football team, the Fighting Irish. This Notre Dame team, just like the Boston Celtics, also is rated higher than other teams in its league. College students especially love attending one of these high-energy games.

These teams not only both carry luck but they carry the Irish tradition as well. Fans of the teams attend the sporting events dressed up in green attire to show pride in the Irish background. Everyone seems to enjoy both the game and the atmosphere as well.

Irish people enjoy a wide variety of sports, and Irish Americans even more so. So when you ask yourself what are the top five sports that Irish Americans enjoy, this article is here to explain that very question. Soccer is probably the most well liked sport by Irish Americans. In Ireland, they even have a league of their own, called the League of Ireland. Second would come basketball, as all Irish Americans it seems, enjoy this sport wholeheartedly. The next game on the list will probably come as a surprise, if you are not Irish or Irish American. That sport is called hurling and it is a favorite of both native Irishmen and Irish Americans.

It seems that this is what the Irishmen did in their spare-time, and in 1884, the Gaelic Athletic Association was formed to promote bot the sport and Irish identity. Football comes in fourth place with Irish Americans, although they have a very different version of it, traditionally called Gaelic Football. Last but not least is the wonderful sport of golf, and even in Ireland, there are 300 golf courses scattered around. So if you ever wondered what the top five sports for Irish Americans were, hopefully this article will have answered your question.
